Cumberland Island is Georgia's southernmost and largest barrier island. A beautiful, wild place with a fascinating history, the island became a National Seashore in 1972. Cumberland Island is also near Kings Bay Naval Station, the east coast home of ballistic and guided missile submarines, and subs can often be spotted in the waters around the island.
